The Gospel summons us to repentance. This means that the Christian life requires constant growth in self-awareness including an awareness of personal failure and imperfection. In the course of his time at the Emmaus House, the resident should deepen the realization of his own need for continued conversion, and see the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a celebration of Christ’s peace and an instrument of personal and communal growth. It is hoped that with greater awareness of the need for conversion, the Sacrament will become an integral part of each resident’s spiritual/liturgical life. The resident is encouraged to utilize local priests or their Spiritual Director for the Sacrament. The priest director of the Emmaus House will not hear confessions of the residents because he remains in the external forum for evaluation and recommendation to the resident’s Bishop and perspective seminary.
